Apology and Honey

First the apology. I really thought I would be able to post
daily during the month of March. However I did get my taxes
done and had a good visit over Spring Break with all my
grandchildren.

Just when I thought I would be able to get back to work, the
babies got sick - just flu but very demanding on my time. Then
my daughters had school reports due and they took the computer.

Then I got side tracked by other obligations that took much longer
than I expected. I am working on adding pages to my web site to
expand on the benefits of hobbies on your health. That is not
done either.

I promise to do better.

As for Honey - well you should never be without it. Learn to sweeten
your coffee and tea with honey. Different flavor I know. And depending
on where the honey was made - that makes a difference in flavor also.

Always try to find local honey. You might as well have the allergy
fighting properties of honey for your own area.

Did you ever have anyone tell you to take honey for a sore throat? Usually
"they" just say it soothes the throat. (My dad used to take a mix of
honey and whiskey. I really think he liked the whiskey more than the honey.)

Yes it is soothing for the throat but more important, Honey is a natural
antibiotic.
It is going to work on destroying the germs and bacteria
that are causing that sore throat.

The benefits of honey are too many to go into here but rest assured that
not only will honey sooth the symptoms, but it will fight the causes.

I told you MILK was BAD for you!

It is so nice to have some one else confirm my words.

Now, if you love milk, you may not want to read this. Not only will this article reveal why cow's milk is not compatable with humans, but it will point up the very possible horrible results of a life time of milk drinking.

Dr. Kradjian addresses cow's milk

Soy milk suits me just fine for my coffee and cereal.

Too close to see

Did you ever try and try to clean a spot off your glasses and it just wouldn’t go away?

I cleaned my glasses 3 times before I finally realized that the spot was actually a piece of lint on my eyelashes.

Isn’t that the way most of life is? Your solutions are so close to you that you cannot see them.

We blow our problems way out of proportion thinking we need a mega flash-of-light solution. We tend to think that winning the lottery or winning a month at a health spa or winning a new house is the only answer.

Did you ever stop to think that maybe the universe is trying to help you with that excess weight by temporarily slowing down your income? Maybe all you need is to give up that fast food and the sodas to loose a few pounds. That could be a money savings that could help pay a bill.

Maybe you wished you could stop your impulse spending. Being short on cash is a good way to stop impulse spending. Never carry your credit cards and that should really stop your impulse spending. Stop charging on the credit cards and put the money you used to spend on fast food and impulse spending on the credit card bill.

Take a few moments to stop and really think about that problem. Is the solution right in front of you or is the cause different than you assumed? Is the spot on your glasses or is it on your eyelashes.

Faith Healings

I don't know how you feel about faith healing. I think it is great. However I know some people that were not cured by faith. Some came to their end with guilt along with pain.

To be dying and to be told that your faith is just not strong enough or you would be cured is wrong. We are all going to die some day. That some have been cured by faith is a wonderful thing.

Perhaps it is just a little tickle in the back of the brain that claims faith healing is not possible for that particular individual.

You can believe with all your heart in God and His power to heal and at the same time you can feel unworthy of that healing. If you decline to be healed, no method or drug will make a difference.

I found this news article most interesting. Hope you enjoy it as well.

Is Lack of Sleep Making You Sick?

Everybody has nights when they just can’t sleep. It is annoying but not life threatening.

When lack of sleep goes from annoying to really making you sick or over-weight that is when most people start looking a prescription or over-the-counter sleeping aids.

The time to start looking for a solution to sleeping problems is way before illness and weight gain. And the solution to sleeping problems is not a sleeping pill.

The normal things that can keep you from a sound healthy sleep are

• a new baby in the house
• sick children
• sick adults
• sick pets
• time change

These things will pass will time – try to catch a nap during the day.

Also normal but self induced are

• worry over any subject from money to weight to love or the loss of it.
• caffeine late in the day or evening
• a strenuous work out within an hour of going to bed
• eating a large meal within a couple of hours of bed time
• a bad mattress that does not properly support your body
• muscle aches from working out too hard or just working in the yard

Sleep apnea is a condition that is life threatening.

If you are not breathing properly during sleep, your body is waking you up to start your breathing again. This continuous waking up cycle stops the normal sleep cycle. Sleep apnea can be caused by over-weight, nasal obstructions or more serious conditions.

The most deadly part of sleep apnea is that the person affected by this condition will uncontrollably fall asleep during normal waking hours. They can be driving a car or working in the kitchen.

A very dear friend of mine suffers from sleep apnea. He fell asleep making cookies in the kitchen and literally fell to the floor. Hitting the floor woke him up. He now uses a special breathing machine at night to insure a full night of sleep and no more falls during the day.

Most people fall in the category of self-induced sleep problems. Before you go buy a sleeping pill try some of these more body friendly solutions.

Take a warm bath about a half an hour before bed time.

Make bed time the same time every night even weekends.

No caffeine for six hours before bed time.

Try a cup of Kava tea about an hour before bed time.

Don’t eat anything for at least four hours before bed time.

If you are taking naps during the day, don’t sleep for more than 20 minutes.

Make sure there is no light in your room. Even the light from a clock can be enough to wake you up. If you must have an alarm clock or clock radio, cover the lighted area or put it under you bed.

As we age, our natural melatonin production falls off.

Melatonin is what tells your body it is time to sleep. Melatonin is packaged in various mg strengths. You should start with the smallest dosage you can find. Melatonin is not a sleeping pill.

If you are lying there in the dark with your mind going a million miles an hour about problems, get up and write those problems down. Once you have listed all the problems you don’t have to keep going over them in your mind. Release them to be tackled the following day. Solutions will come from unexpected sources if you will just let go.

During sleep, your mind is going to review everything that you experienced that day and put it together with all the past information stored in your subconscious. At the same time, your body is repairing itself. Within a short time, with good sleep habits, you can throw that alarm clock away.

Don’t cheat yourself out of the best healing mechanism the body has – get a good night’s sleep.
