HGH in a Supplement

I am looking into a bottle of HGH or Human Growth Hormone. It comes highly recommended to me. On the surface it looks very promising in fact promising the moon.

Before I tell you the name and the website --- I will buy some and give it a try. If I like the results, then I will pass along the name and where to buy.

I have a problem with HGH in supplement form. Usually the directions are to take however many pills every day. Although this may give the quickest results, it only lasts as long as you take the pills.

Your normal HGH production, even if it is very low due to age, will stop when you take a supplemental form every day. You can boost your own production of HGH with exercise, but if you are taking a pill everyday, your brain will tell your natural production to cease. There is no research showing that it will start up again on its own.

So for me, I will not take this pill every day. I may get a slower benefit, but I will keep my own natural production, low as it is, in place.

I will keep you posted on my results.

The Healthy Attitude

"There are no hopeless situations; there are only people who have grown hopeless about them."
Clare Boothe 1903-1987, Author

Being defeated is only a temporary condition; giving up is what makes it permanent."
Marilyn vos Savant Author

"It is not the straining for great things that is most effective; it is the doing of the little things, the common duties, a little better and better.'"
Elizabeth Stuart Phelps 1844-1911, Writer

What do all these sayings have in common? What do they have to do with getting healthy and staying that way?

The Healthy Attitude is one that acknowledges that not every day with have all the elements of good health.

You may back slide a little and eat half a cake. You may just put up your feet and watch TV for 6 hours. You may do all the exercises but eat 4 candy bars.

Look at the dates on those quotes. The same advice has been given over and over. You just keep on working at doing the right things. The only time you really fail is when you give up and stop trying.

I know, trying is not doing. In the world of fixing or not fixing a flat tire that may apply. But -- in the world of self improvement, returning your body and mind to optimum health, it is the daily or even hourly trying to meet that goal that really counts.

Each cigarette you don't smoke is a help to your lungs and heart. Each apple you eat is contributing to your well being. Each time you remember to take a CoQ10 or turmeric you are fighting against inflammation and helping your heart.

Concentrate on the little things, the extra 10 steps, the one healthy meal. Do not stress about the rest of the week or even yesterday. All you have is today and the small efforts you make today will impact all the tomorrows.

Joke

A man is driving down the road and his car breaks down near a monastery.

He goes to the monastery, knocks on the door, and says, "My car broke down. Do you think I could stay the night?"

The Monks graciously accept him, feed him dinner, even fix his car.

As the man tries to fall asleep, he hears a strange sound. A sound not like anything he's ever heard before. The Sirens that nearly seduced Odysseus into crashing his ship comes to his mind. He doesn't sleep that night. He tosses and turns trying to figure out what could possibly be making such a seductive sound.

The next morning, he asks the Monks what the sound was, but they say, "We can't tell you. You're not a Monk."

Distraught, the man is forced to leave.

Years later, after never being able to forget that sound, the man goes back to the monastery and pleads for the answer again.

The Monks reply, "We can't tell you. You're not a Monk."

The man says, "If the only way I can find out what is making that beautiful sound is to become a Monk, then please, make me a Monk"

The Monks reply, "You must travel the earth and tell us how many blades of grass there are and the exact number of grains of sand. When you find these answers, you will have become a Monk."

The man sets about his task.

After years of searching he returns as a gray-haired old man and knocks on the door of the monastery.

A Monk answers.

He is taken before a gathering of all the Monks. "In my quest to find what makes that beautiful sound, I traveled the earth and have found what you asked for:

By design, the world is in a state of perpetual change. Only God knows what you ask. All a man can know is himself, and only then if he is honest and reflective and willing to strip away self deception."

The Monks reply, "Congratulations. You have become a Monk. We shall now show you the way to the mystery of the sacred sound."

The Monks lead the man to a wooden door, where the head monk says, "The sound is beyond that door."

The Monks give him the key, and he opens the door.

Behind the wooden door is another door made of stone. The man is given the key to the stone door and he opens it, only to find a door made of ruby. And so it went that he needed keys to doors of emerald, pearl and diamond.

Finally, they come to a door made of solid gold. The sound has become very clear and definite. The Monks say, "This is the last key to the last door."

The man is apprehensive to no end. His life's wish is behind that door!
With trembling hands, he unlocks the door, turns the knob, and slowly pushes the door open.

Falling to his knees, he is utterly amazed to discover the source of that
haunting and seductive sound......

But I can't tell you what it is because you're not a Monk.

Prescription Pills in Your Drinking Water

How Do You Dispose of Unused Pills?

I just finished reading an interesting but rather short sighted article. It started out with the reference to Gore's son's arrest for speeding and drugs. The drugs were abused prescription drugs. And the statistics for the rise in abuse of prescription drugs is climbing at an alarming rate.

Besides the obvious statement that prescription drugs should be kept in a controlled environment just like a gun, there was a section on the disposal of "left over drugs".

Excuse me, but when a doctor prescribes something, you are supposed to take it all. That is one reason we now have the so-called super bugs.

The drugs for depression and ADHD are really the ones in question. These drugs give the so called normal person a high. They are readily available at schools causing the schools to make the rules so strict that a child cannot even carry an aspirin. You can lose your privilege of getting an education just because you had a headache.

My big problem with the advice in the article was about the disposal of unused and/or expired drugs.

In the past we all just flushed them down the toilet. Now we are being asked not to do that because all these drugs are getting in the water system and causing health risks.

Ok waste water is processed to a certain level of cleanliness and then used to water crops which are then eaten either by cattle, potential food, or directly by humans as produce and grain products.

Fish farms use waste water to raise fish. Scientists are seeing an increase in fish mutation such as male fish carrying eggs.

The article I read suggested that you talk to your pharmacist about a buy back program where the pharmacist would restock the pills.

Excuse me, no way. I do not want my prescription filled with pills that have been in someone else's hand. I do not believe that any pharmacy would do such a thing. The lawsuit possibilities are endless.

Now if the pharmacy returns the pills to the manufacturer for disposal ---- is that really any better.

Big Pharmaceutical companies could do a lot for their tarnished image by providing a bin for people to dump their unused/old pills (complete with bottle). I just wonder how they would safely dispose of them.

I do believe that the pharmacy should have a system in place to take those unused pills and safely dispose of them -- just like changing the oil in your car. You can't just throw the old oil in the trash you must take it to a recycle center which is usually the place where you bought your new oil.

I believe that most people just toss the bottle and the pills inside into their trash can.

Now on one hand those pills are pretty well prevented from entering the water system because of the plastic bottle which will not degrade until my great great grandchildren are around to clean up the mess. On the other hand, there is so much plastic at the dump now, there may not be any great great grandchildren.

So what is the answer for disposing of unused pills? It is not just the prescription pills but also the old aspirin and Tylenol that ends up in the trash. Do we need to change our waste water clean up to include the removal of drugs? What do you think?

Too Much of a Good Thing Sleep?

Most people with a sleep problem complain that they do not get enough sleep. It is the difficulty in falling asleep or in staying asleep that occupies their minds. The combination of stress and being over weight is a major cause of sleep problems.

As people age, the level of melatonin naturally produced by the body begins to decrease, doing its bit to add to the aging process. According to sleep related studies, taking a melatonin supplement on a regular basis is a good thing - if you are over 50.

This excerpt from a report at

http://www.smart-publications.com/sleeping_disorders/melatonin.php

Scientists know that sleep is as important as food and air, and the quantity and quality an individual gets is also extremely important. Six and one-half to seven hours of uninterrupted sleep seem to be the magic number for a lot of people. Interestingly, research shows that sleeping more than eight hours may have deleterious effects, although the reasons for this are less clear. According to data from the Cancer Prevention Study II, individuals who average seven hours of sleep each night have a lower mortality rate than do those who sleep eight hours or more.

Specifically, he said, individuals who slept eight hours per night were 12% more likely to die within six years than were those who slept seven hours. The highest mortality rates occurred among men and women who slept more than eight and one-half hours. This group had at least a 15% increased risk of death, said Dr. Kripke. As for short sleep, men who slept less than four and one-half hours and women who slept less than three and one-half hours also had at least a 15% increased risk of death. Dr. Kripke presented his findings at the 16th Annual Meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies

Although melatonin hasn’t been called a rejuvenating supplement—yet—it appears that it can be significantly beneficial to the elderly and to the aging process for these reasons:

1. The amount of melatonin that is secreted by the pineal gland falls gradually over one’s lifetime.

2. Melatonin was recently discovered to be a potent antioxidant and oxidative stress is believed to be a contributor to aging, as well as to age-related diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson diseases.

3. Melatonin is naturally produced by the body as a sleep-inducing agent, and its reduced concentrations may result in insomnia and/or sleep disturbances, which are very often associated with advancing age.

4. Melatonin is a natural immune enhancer, and as we age the immune system seems to work less efficiently.

Melatonin can be purchased from your local health food store, online, every drug store and the grocery store. The secret is to discover just how much you need. The standard dosages vary. The effects vary. I know one young man that takes melatonin as a type of speed because that is how it works for him. A different dosage would definitely be in order.

It will be a trial and error period for you. Start with the lowest dosage and work up until you get that perfect 6 1/2 - 7 hour sleep period. Remember that when you take it is just as important as how much.

And if you are one of those people that sleep too much, wake up. Literally this could be the turning point of your health. If depression or boredom is keeping you in that bed then it is time to realize that life is for the living moving creatures. Get some help from your doctor, friends, family, church - something to give you a reason to get up and get moving.

You can break this vicious cycle. You are too tired to exercise, but you need exercise to have energy. You are too tired to get up, but you stayed up until 2am watching TV. You want to lose weight but keep munching because you are up so late. You can't stay asleep because your stomach is too full.

Just pick a place to break the circle. Pick right now when you are reading this. Pick today to make the small changes that will have a dramatic impact on your life.

I am not sure about this joke. A sign of times most certainly.

MOSES & THE RED SEA

Nine-year-old Joey, was asked by his mother what he had learned in
Sunday school.

"Well, Mom, our teacher told us how God sent Moses behind enemy lines
on a rescue mission to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. When he got to the
Red Sea, he had his army build a pontoon bridge and all the people walked
across safely. Then, he radioed headquarters for reinforcements. They
sent bombers to blow up the bridge and all the Israelites were saved."

"Now, Joey, is that really what your teacher taught you?" his mother asked.

"Well, no, Mom. But, if I told it the way the teacher did, you'd never believe it!

Tea relief for Rosacea and that non-feminine hair growth.

Tea may bring relief for Rosacea and that non-feminine hair growth.

Thought I would pass along a few tea tips from the Home Herb Garden Newsletter.

First a tip or two on preparing tea. If you are the modern in a hurry person you may be in the habit of popping a cup of water and tea bag in the microwave and bringing the water to a boil. You will like that tea much better if you boil the water, let it cool for a moment or two and then put in your tea bag. Putting tea in boiling water reduces all the good benefits and makes for a bitter taste.

Also, research is now showing that putting milk in your tea blocks all the good benefits, it may taste good, but it will do nothing for your body.

Now from www.home-herb-garden.com

Green Tea

Sipping a daily cup of anti-oxidant-rich green tea reduces the risk of developing esophageal cancer as much as 60% as long as the tea isn’t piping hot. When you drink very hot beverages, you can scald and damage the esophagus, increasing the risk of cancer as much as fourfold according to a study in the International Journal of Cancer.

If you have rosacea, try applying green tea directly to the skin. Cool a freshly brewed cup of green tea in the fridge for 30 minutes, then dab onto clean skin with a cotton ball. The polyphenols have a proven anti-inflammatory and cell-regenerating effect that heals irritated skin, plus reducing rosacea bumps by 72% in 30 days.

Spearmint

If women find themselves with a condition that makes them grow hair on their breasts, faces and stomachs, new research finds symptoms are relieved by drinking a few cups of spearmint tea daily. 2-5 cups daily reduces the level of androgens in the body. More studies are planned to verify the results.

Tea

Want to naturally decaffeinate tea in the evening? Steep a tea bag (or loose tea) in boiling water for one minute, dump the liquid, then prepare a fresh cup using the same bag. Since 90% of the caffeine is removed in the first “drawing”, you’ll get the flavor you crave and still sleep. In China, this is standard practice when drinking tea, sometimes even dumping the first 2 liquids.

Health News Scare Tactics

What is in the health news today. The usual take heed this will kill you stuff. Why does everything "newsworthy" have to be presented in a frightening way. Is that the only way people will pay attention.

The very healthiest thing you can do for yourself is keep a positive attitude. Believe that you are well and you have 75% of the battle won. The rest is common sense. Eat healthy which means avoiding fast foods, frozen dinners, sugary drinks and the wonderful fried stuff. If it is so bad for you, why does it have to taste so good.

In my opinion, the simple act of thinking that what you are eating will kill you, invites the mind to set up just that scenario.

Anyway, it is not just food and drink that you have to worry about. Going to the beach - beware the fabled -----sand holes. They kill more people, especially children, than any group of sharks every dreamed of killing.

Rules, never get in a sand hole deeper than your knees. Sand collapses very quickly and leaves no bumps to tell you where your small child is buried. Of course you should never allow children to play on the beach unattended. That means you can't sit there and read a book or take a nap. All those "oh that is so sad" stories all have one thing in common, we think to ourselves -- that could never happen to me or those things happen to other people. Remember, that is only true if you do your own due diligence.

Are you following the bee colony collapse problem. Read an article this am that the organic bee keepers are not having any problems. It is the commercial bee keepers, with genetically altered bees that feed on genetically altered crops that are having the problem. Hmmmm.

hsi_diabetes_free_report.pdf

Very nice report on some natural herbal supplements that help control what your body does with all that sugar.

The Japanese are working on a Mulberry supplement that defeats sugar in the battle to turn your body into a diabetic kingdom. Since the mulberry supplement is not readily available you will want to use what is for the time being. Try

* Nopal cactus (helps lower blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels while blocking the absorption of fat)

* Konjac mannan (helps improve insulin resistance and lowers triglycerides)

* Gymnema sylvestre (helps reduce sugar cravings while stimulating insulin secretion)

I use the Nopal Cactus and the Gymnema Sylvestre. Think I will check out the Konjac as well. There is no substitute for eliminating sugar from your diet, but if you can't quite yet, then truly you need these supplements. However, they will not completely negate the sugar you ingest.

Along that line, take a look at this article on a prescription drug for diabetes.

Article from Times on Line

The drug companies may be coming out with high priced effective drugs to manage diabetes but the additional cost is an early heart attack. The whole thing is so sad because it is a simple fix in the early stages by just managing your diet. That leads to a whole different issue -- why can't we as human beings give up the sugar. Is sugar the ultimate comfort food in a stressed out world?

Relieve a little stress with this funny video.

Food Sensitivities

Last night I had a strange happening. When I got home from work, I had a banana and a glass of orange juice. About an hour later, I started to itch. No hives, but just an itching sensation all over my body. It felt like like tiny bugs crawling all over me. I could not find any Benadryl in the house so just suffered.

I have never had any reaction to a banana or to a glass of juice before this. It was the combination which I had never before eaten.

That is the hard part about finding out about food sensitivities. There may be specific foods that always bother you. For me it is strawberries, every time I eat them I get hives.

It is the foods that normally, as far as you know, do not have any adverse affect on your body.

We could say I have an allergy to strawberries, but a food sensitivity to a combination of banana and orange juice.

For many people, a food sensitivity is the culprit behind that stuffy nose. That is a common reaction for a great many people, especially children. We are so used to saying that children always have a cold in their early years. They get around other children in day care or school or just the grocery store. They have to build an immunity to all those every day germs.

But, what if, that runny nose is just a symptom of a food sensitivity. What is the one thing we all give our children and what is the most common source of allergies and food sensitivities --- milk.

My two granddaughters were so different. One loved milk and drank it at every opportunity. She rarely had a runny nose and if she did, she had the fever to go with it. The other much preferred juice or tea. She would drink milk if given no other option, but she was the one with the perpetual runny nose. Something to try with that one, no milk for a week and see if the drippy nose stops.
