Back Pain Management

Back Pain---it makes you walk hunched over and prevents you from bending. Getting into bed can be a major goal and getting out of bed can be a major accomplishment.

Back Pain Management is now the focus of your existence. Sometimes it doesn't matter if you are sitting, standing or prone in bed...it hurts and there is no comfortable position.

You feel angry at yourself for not doing those exercises that would strengthen your back before you hurt it ----again. You sit and feel sorry for yourself. You cry and wish you had not done that foolish thing that set off this round of pain. Maybe everyone else can do that simple thing but if you cannot do it at this time then don't.

After a few days you finally give in and go see the doctor and he gives you pills. You may opt to see a chiropractor for an adjustment to your spine or for mild electric charge treatment. This is all part of your Back Pain Management.

A few years ago I decided to move my piano. No one was around so I did it myself. Wrong. After a few days of not being able to walk up right or get in or out of bed by myself I went to see a chiropractor. He did the exam and then attached little pads to the small of my back. Then a mild electrical current zapped me. It did not hurt. Well maybe just a little at first.

That electrical jolt taught my back muscles to relax. They were in a permanent state of clench. The treatment only lasted about 15-20 minutes and I was able to walk upright without much pain for the next several hours. I did this every day for 2 weeks. Each day I could move longer and longer without pain.

My Back Pain Management plan includes not moving the piano by myself any more.

However, like most people, I work on improving those back muscles for a few weeks and then get side tracked and after a few days or weeks just stop. Then comes another episode of stupidity and more back pain and then I go back to exercising.

From an herbal standpoint, I did chamomile tea and took added B complex vitamins. The B is essential to repairing nerves. The chamomile calms you and that helps the muscles relax. There is also a very good tea by Celestial Seasonings called Tension Tamer. It contains among other things chamomile and lemon grass. A great tea to relax muscles.

Your Back Pain Management plan should include some good teas and above all prevention. If you are already hurting, have some one pick you up some tea and some B complex vitamins.

Another subject. My computer is down and will be going to the shop today. This posting is done on another computer in the house. This computer has none of the software I generally use so postings will be as I can. I cannot get to my email program so be patient on getting a reply to anything you send me.

If you have a specific area of pain, let me know. I am trying to hit the most common areas of pain complaints but I realize I may not get to yours soon enough.

Pain Management and Dangerous Drugs

When you talk Pain Management you almost immediately think of drugs, either doctor given or over the counter. Too many people think there are no side effects from taking the over the counter pills such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Oh you may not become addicted like you would to morphine but you are slowly killing your liver. That drug advisory that tells you not to exceed the dosage is because they don't want your family to sue the drug company for killing you.

Pain Management is geared toward treating a symptom.

Your back hurts. You did the ice and then the heat and you took a couple of ibuprofen tablets. A few hours later your back is still hurting and you take more pills. Repeat for a few days. You finally go to the doctor who gives you a stronger version of the same ibuprofen and you double up on that to try and forget the pain. You end up in the ER with liver failure.

Let us be realistic here. Even a paper cut hurts for a few days. The more severe the injury, logic would tell you that the pain will last longer. Nothing hurts more than back pain, unless your back does not hurt but your tooth does, or your ear does or your foot does.

Pain hurts. Pain is the body's way of telling you that something is wrong. Stop doing what you are doing and fix the injury.

Pain Management should be a temporary thing, needed only until whatever is wrong is corrected. The management part is important. Don't over do on drugs. Don't expect immediate healing.

I deal with lower back pain on a regular basis. I try to follow the rules that would keep me from pain but my job and my young children keep me lifting heavy loads often from odd angles. I have the added problem of a birth defect in my lower back that lends itself to injury.

My Pain Management for my back involves watching how I lift. It involves more exercises to strengthen my back muscles. As I have aged and become more sedentary, those muscles have become like over stretched rubber bands and just don't do their job anymore.

Now that I have gone to work checking groceries which involves lifting cases of water and bags of dog food, I have really been feeling the back pain. I enjoy talking with people, but I don't enjoy lifting all that heavy stuff. My back on a good day just sends a twinge or two. On bad days I walk rather hunched over.

I drink relaxing teas and I walk every day. I have started exercising my back muscles using my bowflex. I use a heat wrap on my back when necessary. Mostly I think positive. I know my back will get stronger with time. I use EFT.

I have a link to an EFT article. Please take a moment to read the full article. There is an alternative to taking pills.

Increased Danger of Using Pain Medications Enhances Demand for New Drug-Free Pain Treatment: "San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) -- Pain medication was never intended to cure pain -- merely mask the pain symptoms. By conventional definition, pain is a physical signal that something is wrong in the body. According to EFT theory, pain is a signal that there is a block in the bodyÂ’s energy meridian system (Chi or Qi), or that there are unresolved emotional issues. When emotional pain is addressed, the energy meridian system balances, no longer stimulating in a physical pain response."

Sorry I have not been keeping this blog subject on Pain Management current. Between work and getting the youngest daughter moved to college, I just pooped out. I have much to say on the subject of Pain Management and I will get it said. I have started several pages on the Answers For Your Health web site but have not published them yet. I will let you know when that additional information is available.

Pain Management is it Physical or Mental

Again I question the phrase Pain Management. The goal is to get rid of the pain. Management sounds like an issue that will on going for many months or even years. Perhaps management of pain is the plan that involves doing something that will stop the pain from occurring such as taking a B complex supplement for migraines.

Pain Management for Migraines

For women that routinely get a migraine during their monthly period, the answer may be as simple as B vitamins. You would want to take an additional B complex supplement starting a week to 10 days before you are due to start menstruation.

If you have never experienced a Migraine, may you continue to be so blessed. I do not believe anyone can accurately describe the pain. There was a time in my life that I suffered frequently from Migraines. I had a year of pure hell with cluster Migraines sometimes 4 a day.

I have not had a Migraine in the last 3 years. Knock wood. I did some diet changes by eliminating some foods, added the B complex supplements, worked with EFT to release stress and so far so good. The last Migraine I had was totally stress related. Sometimes, no matter what you attempt to do, the stress just overwhelms you.

Pain Management, the ultimate goal is Pain Elimination.

Next up ----- Pain Management and Sunburn, Back Pain and Insect Bite.

Oh I almost forgot. A link for you to check out. When was the last time you saved a life for $5.00

Kickstart Daily Meanderings: "That initiative is called the LifeStraws Challenge.
Lifestraws are a new invention that allows a person to drink dirty, contaminated water through a tube and be safe. The tube filters, cleans and neutralizes the water.
Each LifeStraw will process up to 700 liters of water - enough for an adult to survive on for a year. Yet they are only about 10 inches long. They filter out all kinds of harmful micro-organisms.
They save lives.
But saving lives comes at a price.
Each straw costs a bit less than a Starbucks' Latte."
