Pain Management Try Prevention

We all want pain management. Actually we want no pain. Do you know anyone who purposely seeks out pain. If you do, they need psychiatric help. Yet again, we do seek out pain. We suddenly decide to start an exercise program to improve our health and dive head first into an exercise routine that leaves us feeling the pain of over-used or torn muscles.

Prevention is the first step to pain management. Be reasonable about your physical ability. Be reasonable about your diet. Is the food you consume providing your body with the ability to heal and in fact avoid debilitating disease?

Prevention is the best way to avoid the necessity for pain management after a car accident. Don't drink and drive. Don't drive when you are sleepy. Be aware of the potential hazards on the road.

But it has already happened. Your body is trying to heal in spite of the pain. The pain is draining your focus from healing. The pain is keeping you from taking a walk or just getting the absolutely necessary good night sleep.

The second point of pain management is reactionary instead of preventive. Now you must treat the symptoms. For most of us, a pill or dozen get us through the day. That may be necessary at first but you must commit to the resolve that addiction to drugs is not the answer. Your body will adjust to that dosage of pain killer and soon require more and more.

More on pain management next time.

For now a few pain prevention tips. Lately these tips have been flooding my inbox from various sources.

Go to this link and enter your street address...it will show a house in the middle of the map, that's your house... all the little colored boxes are registered Sex Offenders... click on them and you get a name, address & picture of the person along with his crime... pretty amazing and scary...it shows you where they live in proximity to your home and the local schools.

Next time you come home for the night and put your keys away, think of this: It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation.

Start keeping your car keys next to your bed on the night stand when you go to bed at night. If you think someone is trying to get into your house, or if you hear a noise outside your house, just press the panic alarm on your car key chain.

Test it: It will go off from most everywhere Inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage.

If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break in your house, odds are the burglar or rapist won't stick around...after a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. (Most neighborhoods no one would even look out side, but reality is that a burglar will take off for a quieter neighborhood.)

Try yours to make sure it works before you rely on it. Just know that you must press the alarm button again to turn it off. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there.

This is something that should really be shared with everyone. Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime.

1 . Tip from Tae Kwon Do:

The elbow is the strongest point on your body.

If you are close enough to use it, do!

2. Learned this from a tourist guide in New Orleans.

If a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM.

Toss it away from you....chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you,and he will go for the wallet/purse.

RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!

3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the back tail lights

and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver won't see you, but everybody else will. This has saved lives.

4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc.,
and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc. DON'T DO THIS!)

The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go.

AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR, LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.

a. If someone is in the car with a gun to your head

DO NOT DRIVE OFF,

repeat:

DO NOT DRIVE OFF!

Instead gun the engine and speed into anything, wrecking the car. Your Air Bag will save you. If the person is in the back seat they will get the worst of it.

As soon as the car crashes bail out and run.

It is better than having them find your body in a remote location.

5 A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:

A.) Be aware:

look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor, and in the back seat

B..) If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door.

Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.

C..) Look at the car parked on the driver's side of your vehicle, and the passenger side.

If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back

into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out.

IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)

6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. Stairwells are horrible places

to be alone and the perfect crime spot. This is especially true at NIGHT! (Guess this means that if you want to get some exercise, you will need a buddy)

7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control,

ALWAYS RUN!

The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; And even then,

it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ.

RUN, Preferably in a zig -zag pattern!

8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic:

STOP .

It may get you raped, or killed.

Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp,
and often asked "for help" into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.

9. Another Safety Point:

Someone just told me that her friend heard a crying baby on her porch the night before last, and she called the police because it was late and she thought it was weird. The police told her "Whatever you do, DO NOT open the door."

The lady then said that it sounded like the baby had crawled near a window,

and she was worried that it would crawl to the street and get run over.

The policeman said, "We already have a unit on the way, whatever you do, DO NOT open the door."

He told her that they think a serial killer has a baby's cry recorded and uses it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby

He said they have not verified it, but have had several calls by women saying that
they hear baby's cries outside their doors when they're home alone at night.

(I have heard this one with various sounds, crying kitten, puppy or child. I know I would be more likely to just open the door for the sound of a hurt animal. A crying baby or child would trigger my mental alarm.)

*****
I hate being paranoid. I truly feel that you can draw the bad stuff to you by always worrying about it. Being aware of the possible ways to open yourself up to crime is not paranoid. You would not walk in front of a car so don't wave a flag at a criminal and shout here I am. This advice applies to men as well as women and certainly to our teenagers and children. Victims are most often the elderly, infirm, very young or the distracted adult. How many times have you watched a movie and told the hero - don't go in there. Anyone can see the danger. If you see the potential for danger -------- don't go there.

Anti Aging Information Overload

Sometimes I think I should just stop reading. Everyday something old is new and what was bad yesterday is fine today. Fluoride once the answer to tooth decay is now generally accepted as being really bad for your body. Fluoride is a poison and now the voice of authority is no longer sure that it really stops tooth decay.

Coffee is a good thing. It has high antioxidants that fight the free radicals in your body. You still shouldn't drink more than 2-3 cups a day because of the caffeine jitters.

Microwave cooking distorts the cells of the food cooked. If you use plastics to heat the food, then the chemicals in the plastics are absorbed into the food and that is really bad. Most experts agree that you should never stand by the microwave when it is running to avoid the radiation.

Just cooking the food distorts the cells. If you sear the meat you get carcinogenic meat cells. If you cook the vegetables you destroy the nutritional value.

Just this morning I read that organically grown vegetables are not good because they have to fight for existence. Hey, not long ago I was reading that organically grown vegetables were the best for the very same reason. The harder the plant had to work to grow the stronger it was and the more nutritional value it had.

Some of this information is put out by the people who have the latest greatest fix. They have a pill or a spray or a bottled water plant.

Although there is some truth in all of this, the main reason for the information is to scare you and get you to buy some new or possibly old cure.

Eat healthy. Cook healthy. That means you eat in moderation. You eat raw vegetables as well as cooked vegetables. Will we give up our microwaves? Some have. At least use glass containers to cook or reheat that food.

Don't live on frozen dinners. I know, it makes counting calories so much easier, but you really are short changing yourself on nutrition.

Don't buy cheap vitamin-mineral supplements. Multiple tests have shown that the cheaper bottles do not contain what the label claims and they usually are so compacted that they will not properly dissolve in your body and therefore do you no good.

Walk every day. It is simple and easy and totally necessary to having a healthy body. Use it or lose it.

Above all else, don't fall for the scare tactics. Buy good supplements and remember to take them. Laugh every day. Give thanks every day for every blessing that you have. Listen to your own body. If you eat something and it makes you sleepy or irritable, just don't eat it any more.

Arthritis Joint Pain could be from Magnesium

I was reading an interesting article on Joint Pain and Magnesium. It would appear that the increase of calcium fortified foods is throwing our bodies into an imbalance that could be causing joint pain as well as a number of other ailments.

You need the combination of Calcium and Magnesium for the calcium to strenthen your bones. With everything now containing extra calcium but your daily vitamin only containing a minimum amount of Magnesium, you are forcing your body to store some of the calcium in the joints and that mineral build up causes pain.

You can get Magnesium in pill form but most of the supplements do not have the proper formula for the body to absorb the magnesium. Best bet is to eat some foods that are high in Magnesium. As you can imagine the best sources are the healthy ones.

At the top of the list is 100% Bran Cereal, no sugar. A 1/2 cup of bran cereal has 128 mg of Magnesium. Oat bran (96) and shredded wheat (54) complete the cereal range. Everyone already knows that brown rice (84) is so much better for you than the empty white rice and now you have another reason to eat it.

So if you can't handle eating an ounce of almonds (81) and you are out of bananas (34) then do take a supplement.

On the home front, it feels like I am living in a soap opera. The oldest daughter is home with the 4 grand children. Her job that was a done deal went sour. Someone with more experience got the job. Now it is rethink what will be happening when school starts again which is only a couple of weeks away.

I will continue to baby sit for the 2 year old full time. I will have the 4 year old on Tuesdays and Thursdays and after pre school on the other 3 days. I will also continue to work at my new job as a checker at a grocery store. That will be 6 to midnight 5+ nights a week. In my spare time I will do the house chores and the yard chores and the cooking and laundry and this blog.

Perhaps now that things are getting back to NORMAL? I can get back on some schedule that allows me time to write. I have the beginnings of a site on Pilates and the whole home gym thing. I am also just in the thinking stage of a site about self hypnosis and EFT.

I still need to set up a web site with some good paying advertisments on it. That is income for me and information for you.

The Home Gym and Pilates

Now that I have a job working as a checker at a grocery store, I rarely see my family. I am supposed to be walking every day with my daughter but I usually only see her for an hour just before I leave. She also has a job working at Pizza Hut. We figure that we are walking for 5-6 hours a day.

We moved the bowflex into a room that makes it more available for use and should stop the oldest daughter from hanging her purses on it. I put the pilates mats next to it and there is a TV in the same room for those instructional videos. I was so tired after moving all that stuff I was too worn out to work out. Tomorrow is another day and I for one have the day off.

I think I prefer the Pilates over the Bowflex. Both build muscle but the Pilates is a long lean muscle rather than bulk. But I must admit the Bowflex is more fun.

Check out the latest entry on my ADHD blog.

The Many Faces of ADHD - ADHD the history of: "
I find the research on ADHD/ADD fascinating. The name for this disorder has changed several times and symptoms have been added to the current official DSM-III. If your disease or disorder is not listed in the DSM-III it does not exist.

If you want to know a little of the history of ADHD read on.

Although the symptoms of ADHD and ADD have been around probably forever, it was only recently that it was given the name Attention Deficit Disorder.

In 1902, the first documented diagnosis relating to impulsiveness was made by Dr. Still in Britain. He called this disorder 'Defect of Moral Control' and believed that the individual had a medical disorder beyond their control."

Liver Disease and Family Rant

Visit to the doctor with my daughter and the unhappy information that her liver does not work exactly properly. As I understand it, the liver turns all food into alcohol...the higher the GI index the faster the process. My liver and your liver produce an enzyme that neutralizes the alcohol and continues to process the food and feed the body. For her, the enzyme is not produced and she has very early stage non-alcoholic Cirrhosis of the liver.

This means she must eat a low GI index diet. Her doctor told us to buy the book Sugar Busters And she must exercise 30 minutes a day. She must reduce her weight or suffer permanent liver damage.

She is doing very well and I am extremely proud of her. She has lost 10 pounds and is adjusting to no sugar and no white flour products. Cleaning out the cupboards has been very eye opening for me. I always knew that there was a lot of sugar in packaged foods, I just didn't realize how much. The hardest thing for her father and me is no more sweet tea. Hey this is Texas and sweet tea is a staple.

Now.... mother-in-law is still here---a month and counting. Count with me people, only 9 more days. We go to the grocery store. She knows what is going on. She insists on buying ice cream and other sweet things. She says she knows my husband loves that kind of thing. I tell her he is about 15 pounds over weight and doesn't need them. She buys them anyway. When we get home she bugs the heck out of my husband to eat them. She keeps telling him he doesn't eat enough and doesn't get enough sleep. In front of my daughter she tells him to eat them so my daughter won't cheat and eat them because she has no self control or she would not be fat. (One of the side effects of this lack of liver enzyme is an excess of fat storage.)

The last couple of week she has been ordering my daughter around. Not request but order in the same voice she uses on my 10 year old niece. She thinks my daughter and I are lazy because we do not wait on my husband hand and foot. He is embarrassed and is beginning to have a hard time holding his temper with her.

If I am on the computer she will need something to get me away from it. Mother-in-law needs a whole lot more attention than 2 small grand children. So please forgive me for not posting to my blog, getting new articles up on the web site and answering emails. Count with me people, only 9 days left.

I suggest you look for the Sugar Busters book. You can find it at Amazon and get a good price on a used version. The liver will regenerate itself but only if no permanent damage such as scar tissue is formed. Avoid liver disease and improve your general health and look forward to a long a busy life.
