Christmas Pet Gift

The best Christmas pet gift - safety

It is Christmas time and big dinners and scraps for the dogs and cats. Sometimes those tidbits are 'accidentally' dropped from the table. You don't want to ruin a great day with an emergency trip to the vet. Read on for expert advise on just what special treats your pets can tolerate."

The H3N8 strain of dog flu is slowly spreading. It has now been found in pet dog kennels in New York. My Vet says he has heard it is in two other states as well. The symptoms are similar to Kennel Cough with the addition of high fever and nasal discharge. If you are traveling with your dogs this year, be aware of any symptoms they suddenly display. The incubation time is 2-5 days after exposure.

It is a treatable condition with good results but you will need to see your Vet. So - any nasal discharge, cough, loss of appetite or lack of activity - get that precious dog to the vet.

I'll have some more holiday pet safety tips tomorrow.

until next time - smile
